Hi, my name is Ross.
I am a computing lecturer at EKC Dover College currently teaching the T-Level in Digital Support Services and Gateway Level 2 in Digital and IT Skills qualifications. These have been incredibly interesting quals compared to the GCSE and A Level specifications that I was beholden to during my training year but it has allow me to deliver content in a much more practical and real-world manner that students seem to really enjoy!
I am a recently qualified teacher having completed my PGCE in June 2024 and launching myself into the world of further education. Since completing the course, I have continued reading and researching learning and pedagogy in the field of computing education. My primary areas of interest are effective assessment techniques and the use of generative AI and it’s potential to address Benjamin Bloom’s Two Sigma Problem. I continue to write on these topics and I have the intention of taking this further to a Masters qualification at some point in the not to distant future!
Prior to this, I worked as an audiovisual programming and commissioning engineer and with this I had many great opportunities to play with some seriously cool and expensive audio and automation hardware in iconic landmarks around London.
In my personal life, I am a tinkerer of technology and unashamed collector of old computing “junk” – specifically Thinkpads, Commodore bits and old Apple machines. And I swear, all of these items are completely necessary. This has gradually started making its way into my classrooms, much to the confusion of some students that are unfamiliar with the beige plastic of days gone by!
